SCENE vs Buffer
Buffer is a practical choice when your main job is filling a publishing queue. SCENE’s private beta focuses on the work behind a campaign: the brief, source material, creative versions and the exact draft a person reviews.

Do you need a publishing queue or a campaign decision history?
You have a product update, three screenshots and two competing launch messages. Test whether you need help distributing finished posts or deciding which evidence and creative version deserves to become a post. A queue solves the former. SCENE is worth exploring for the latter.
Buffer offers scheduling, analytics and an AI assistant, with MCP access on every plan. Team adds approval workflows. Vendor features and plans · Further vendor detail
Compare the work you need to do.
| Decision | Buffer | SCENE private beta |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Queue, schedule and measure recurring social posts. | Prepare a campaign with its brief, creative sources, versions and review decisions together. |
| AI connection | Check current host support and permissions in the vendor documentation; availability differs by product. | Workspace-scoped draft workflow. Official ChatGPT/Claude installation is in preparation and has not passed actual-host acceptance. |
| Approval | Confirm the required plan, roles and approval behaviour before buying. | A person reviews the exact creative and destination. New versions need new decisions. |
| Availability | Check the vendor’s current plans and channel/format limits. | Free, invite-only private beta. Publishing, billing and community contributions remain gated. |
Pricing and the cost of a switch.
Free: up to three channels. Essentials: US$5 per channel/month and Team: US$10 per channel/month, billed annually. Check channel totals and taxes. Check the live pricing source.
SCENE currently offers a free private beta with no card or automatic paid upgrade. Future paid pricing is not announced. A free beta is not a like-for-like replacement for an established subscription: include the time needed to recreate briefs, verify rights, review files and qualify each required channel.
SCENE does not promise an automatic Buffer migration. Bring a small, permitted sample manually first. Preserve original files and identifiers in the existing system, and inspect what transfers before moving any important workflow.
A useful evaluation.
Prepare two versions of one product announcement. Keep the same audience and evidence, change only the opening message, then ask a colleague to explain which version they approved and why.
- Start with one real product fact, one audience and one campaign objective.
- Create a private draft and inspect its saved record after reopening it.
- Ask a person to review the exact version and record a clear decision.
- Check required publishing and results separately in an accepted tool. A saved draft is not a delivery receipt.
